Ryanair.com has again topped the ranks of the most visited Irish Web sites that accept advertising, according to the latest figures from New Medialive.

Ryanair.com leads its latest top 40 of Irish Web sites with 33,698,637 page impressions per month (PIPM). Ireland.com comes in second with 24,658,379 PIPM, while the third place goes to Oceanfree.net, which trails some distance behind the top two with eight million PIPM. The figures are for July, 2001, and are based on total traffic figures to Web sites during that period.

Since the release of the last results in April, Ryanair.com has increased its PIPM by over 1.7 million, Ireland.com has remained the same, and Oceanfree.net has climbed from fifth to third by increasing its PIPM by 2.7 million.

According to Sean Coyle, commercial director of Ryanair.com, the increase in the site's audience figures is a reflection of the increased interest in booking flights on-line over the summer period.

"We usually see an increase in passenger numbers of around 20 percent during the summer months, so this rise in traffic to the site is a result of that," he said. Ryanair currently sells around 70 percent of its tickets through its e-commerce site.

Completing the top 10 are RTE Online (6.7 million PIPM), Unison (5.6 million PIPM), Irish Examiner (5.3 million), Eircom.net (4.6 million), Belfast Telegraph (4.31 million), IOL (4.3 million), and IrishJobs.ie (3.96 million).

New to this latest list are IrishAbroad.com (number 11 with 3.9 million PIPM), DAFT.ie (number 18 with 2.05 million PIPM), Online.ie (number 24 with 1.7 million PIPM), and MotorNet.ie (1.02 million PIPM).

Web sites that dropped out of the top 40 were Indigo, RecruitIreland.com, ClubIreland, and WOW. They all failed to get more than Doras' 856,864 PIPM, which helped it clinch the last spot.

New Medialive also released its top 20 list of Irish e-mail newsletters, which saw the Irish Examiner clinch the number one spot with 167,000 subscribers. In second place was Eircom's "News You Can Use" with 164,550 subscribers and third was Top Jobs by Email with 79,537 subscribers.

The top 10 also included e-zines from Nua, Car Buyers Guide, MCD, Unison, and E-Search, as well as two ("Travel & Weekender" and "Shopping & Savings") from Pigsback.com.
