Dell's colourful new concoctions

18-08-2008

by Emmet Ryan

Dell has developed more stylish and fashionable laptops but how much good can a dash of colour do?

While most business users will still follow Henry Ford's model and rely on trusty black devices, there is a benefit to broadening the range on offer. Many younger users and professionals that also use laptops outside of work will certainly welcome the changes. Dell hopes users will see the different colours and designs as a means of personalising laptops. This will however be a fairly limited form of personalisation until the PC maker goes down a more adventurous route by having Hello Kitty styled laptops or other such niche looks.

For now, it's a step in the right direction. There had better be more to follow though if Dell is to use this new style-focussed tactic to make real gains in market share.
