RTE Sport to stream its first ever live webcast | Fujitsu Services wins STG185 million contract for e-HR service
RTE Sport's first ever live webcast will take place on Monday 3 April at 8pm with the live streaming of boxer Bernard Dunne's fight against Carlos Santillan from Italy. RTE Sport said it will stream the fight live and exclusively from rte.ie/sport and will provide commentary by Jimmy Magee and former world champion Dave "Boy" McAuley. The national broadcaster also said that it intends to deliver simultaneous live coverage of the Champions League on both television and its website next year.
Belfast-based telecoms software firm Aepona has launched a new version of its Causeway solution. Causeway is an application which supports operators planning on rolling out mass market instant messaging services for mobile phones. Causeway is a standards-compliant suite of products that includes network integration, service interaction and application components. The suite supports SS7 and SIP for existing and converged networks.
Microsoft has announced the release to manufacturing of Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006, the software giant's core business process management and application integration technology. BizTalk Server 2006 provides advanced management and deployment capabilities, real-time alerting functionality, and a new business activity monitoring (BAM) portal to help companies optimise their business process management investments. In addition, BizTalk Server 2006 delivers new capabilities so businesses can integrate their legacy systems and mainframe assets.
Northern Ireland's Department of Finance and Personnel has awarded Fujitsu Services a contract worth STG185 million to roll out a new electronic Human Resource (e-HR) service. The service, which is part of a project aimed to modernise public services in the North will cover the delivery of personnel services such as payroll to 28,000 people across the Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS).
Xerox has been selected as one of "100 Companies That Matter in Knowledge Management" by KMWorld magazine. The publication based this selection on the quality and effectiveness of Xerox's DocuShare 4.0.1 software, a secure, web-based enterprise content management solution. This is the fourth time Xerox has been included on the KMWorld "100 Companies That Matter" list since it began in 2000. The annual listing is assembled by knowledge management practitioners, theorists, vendors, their customers, analysts and editors from KMWorld.
Alcatel has announced that its new Access Guardian feature set and the Alcatel OmniVista 2770 Quarantine Manager will support Microsoft's Network Access Protection technology. Alcatel's applications supplement Microsoft's policy enforcement platform by offering customers a comprehensive network-based security solution that controls access and automatically quarantines intruders.
Chipmaker Xilinx has unveiled a 65 nanometre programmable microchip which will go into full production later this year. The new chip advances the company's Virtex range of programmable devices which are used in a variety of high performance computer, networking and electronic systems. The 65 nanometre process is the smallest application of integrated circuitry currently in use in the world today. Much of the work relating to the development is being carried out at the Xilinx European headquarters in Ireland where the company employs 450 staff.
Sony has announced the launch of a new VoIP mouse/phone. The VAIO VN-CX-1 not only operates as a regular optical mouse but can also double up as a phone by clicking a button at the side to open it up to become a clamshell-style handset. The device can be used as a conventional phone, or left on the desk for hands-free operation. An LED on top of the mouse lights up as a discrete indicator that someone is calling and the CX1 can also be set to ring, if desired. During a call, the centre scroll wheel acts as a volume control and can also mute the phone.
