Tech support staff axed in Dublin

11-01-2007

by Charlie Taylor

Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) provider ClientLogic is to cut 138 jobs at its technical support centre in north Dublin.

The company, which provides multilingual technical support and customer care services for a number of leading firms including BT, ABN AMRO and Sony Corporation, said 400 employees will remain at its facility at Swords Business Campus.

ClientLogic has been based in Swords since 1999. A subsidiary of Onex, Canada's fourth-largest company, the firm has its headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee. It has 49 facilities in 13 countries throughout North America, Europe, Africa, Central America and Asia.

The company claims to be among the top five global customer care providers, managing more than half a million customer interactions each day of the year

ClientLogic boosted its headcount in Ireland by over 100 people in early 2002 when it took on Gateway's technical support team. The move came as part of a multimillion pound deal to support Gateway's European customers when the PC manufacturer closed its European support operation.

ClientLogic's decision to lay off some staff at the Swords facility is believed to be due to a plan to move part of the business to its centre in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Earlier this week, ClientLogic reported a 'hugely successful' year in 2006 in which it opened new facilities in Las Cruces, New Mexico and Sudbury, Ontario, Canada; creating 900 new jobs within the company. Last year the firm also increased its Latin American presence with the expansion of its Panamanian facility.
