China now leads in net users

It’s been reported recently that China now has the single biggest community of internet users on the planet. Modern China has changed beyond all recognition in its technological race to join the rest of the First World and what more poignant example of its ascendancy than the fact that it has some 300 million people with access to the technology to get online. That's according to the China Internet Network Information Centre. Of course, a huge part of this is through mobile devices. Amongst Chinese students 43.5pc were reported to rely on their mobiles for internet access. But it begs the question, can and will the Chinese state continue to filter and censor the material that its online citizens access and will big name western companies, complicit in aiding this activity, continue to do so, despite recent domestic criticism of their actions? Democracy or otherwise, money talks.
