DMI launches media network events

12-02-2003

by Ralph Averbuch

DMI is capitalising on its recognised role as a leading knowledge company, bringing a fresh round of networking events to the digital media industry.

Called the DIGITAL MEDIA NETWORK (DMN), the events initiative aims to accelerate growth in digital media throughout Ireland. It is hoped that creating a forum will provide industry professionals with an opportunity to meet, swap ideas and share their expertise.

The initial objective for DMN will be monthly gatherings across Ireland, with Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Athlone and Galway in line for events over the coming months. Supporting the on-the-ground activities will be an on-line community message board managed by DMI.

"it was made abundantly clear that there was demand for regular regional events, where people could effectively network"
Ian Bagnall, DMI
DMN was inspired by last year's O2 Digital Media Conference, where delegates made recommendations, one of which was the creation of an all-Ireland network. This was further bolstered by the Forfas Digital Content Report which recommended initiatives to accelerate the adoption of digital media in Ireland.

As Ian Bagnall, DMI's MD explains, "After the O2 conference it was made abundantly clear that there was demand for regular regional events, where people could effectively network. After the dot-com fallout in 2000, it's now vital that someone take up the baton and run with this. People want it, the industry needs it and Ireland can only benefit from it."

People can join the Digital Media Network for free at the web site, and DMN aims to have 2,000 members by the end of this year. It is expected that attendees will come from professional backgrounds in telecoms, media, technology, education, training and government.

The official launch and first seminar is "The Digital Media Opportunity" in Media Lab Europe in Dublin on 17 February 2003. The launch event begins at 5.15pm with the seminar starting at 6.30pm. It will provide an overview of the industry, pinpointing key opportunities for the digital media businesses.

DMI warns that places are restricted, so those wanting to attend should act quickly. Those attending the first event get a complimentary copy of the Digital Media Services Directory.

The registration fee for this first event is EUR25.

About Digital Media Intelligence

Two years ago the Irish government, through its agency Enterprise Ireland, pinpointed Digital Media as central to the future prosperity of Ireland's internationally traded services sector. Ireland's global reputation for creative talent and its success within the high tech and software industries made DMI the natural choice to lead the way in this exciting and at times unpredictable landscape.

Digital Media Intelligence was created in 2002 to fill the knowledge gap that exists among the wide range of stakeholders that comprise the digital media sector. DMI's role is to disseminate valuable information to all sectors with the aim of increasing their competitiveness in the global marketplace.
