Siemens turns heads at 3GSM World

Siemens has demonstrated the art of the possible with its latest phone design, utilising the Nokia Series 60 OS.
Amongst the multitude of new phones on show at 3GSM World, one of the 'sexiest' was the handset on show from Siemens. Called the SX1, the latest from the German company is a smartphone developed using the Symbian platform, the same OS found in Nokia's 7650.
The SX1 has strips of keys built in to each side of the phone, instead of an ordinary keypad, a design which shifts the large, 64K colour high-res screen into the centre of the device.
The device definitely looks like less of a business phone and more of a fun gadget for the pocket, but the looks are deceiving. On board is a suite of business functions including a personal information management system, an e-mail client and integrated wireless Java technology. The device, which weighs around 110 grams, can also wirelessly synchronise schedules with PCs and PDAs. On the entertainment side, it includes a built-in video player, camcorder, music player and FM radio.
Siemens said the SX1 will be available throughout Europe and Asia within the first half of 2003.
