Nua.com, an on-line resource for information on global Internet trends, has been bought by CyberAtlas, a subsidiary of US-based Jupitermedia.
Nua.com was originally the on-line news publishing arm of Internet consultancy Nua, which went out of business in early 2001.
Scope Communications, publishers of Computerscope and PC Live magazines and technology Web site Techcentral.ie, acquired Nua.com from receivership in June 2001. Scope also organises the annual ICT Expo with the Computer Publications Group, publishers of Irish Computer.
Scope publisher Frank Quinn told ElectricNews.net that the company decided to sell Nua.com because it did not fit in with its main core businesses. "We initially viewed it as an acquisition that would broaden our international scope. But over the course of the last two years the market situation has changed and we have decided to focus entirely on the local situation."
Quinn also said the business, which employed two people full time, was not getting the attention it properly deserved. Quinn declined to disclose the financial terms of the deal.
Following the Scope acquisition, Nua.com had a core base of around 50,000 subscribers to its weekly newsletter worldwide and Web site traffic in the order of 200,000 visits a month. Quinn said this figure has remained fairly static over the last two years.
Jupitermedia is the owner and operator of Internet.com and EarthWeb.com, as well as 150 other Web sites focused solely on the Internet industry and information technology. The company recently changed its name from from INT media to Jupitermedia.
Subscribers to the Nua.com weekly newsletter will now receive the twice-weekly CyberAtlas newsletter. The Nua.com Web site will continue to publish its extensive archive of articles, but it will shortly begin carrying daily reports from CyberAtlas.
