Information and communications technology provider Telindus plans to create 20 jobs in Ireland as part of a EUR4.5 million investment.
The IP systems integrator, which became part of the Belgacom group last year, has already recruited four staff in Belfast and two in Dublin. It is aiming to recruit sales, project management and engineering staff over the next 12 months, to bring its Irish headcount to 20.
Around EUR2.5 million of the initial investment will be spent on creating a store of hardware spare parts for existing customers.
The company has contracts with the Royal Hospitals Group, Derry City Council, the Northwest Institute of Further and Higher Education, and the Irish operations of several multinationals. It is looking at moving into developing areas of the Irish IT services market. These include IPTV, fixed mobile convergence, and IP CCTV. The company is also understood to be close to closing a deal with an Irish property developer to provide CAT5 cabling for triple-play services for new housing developments.
Speaking with ENN, Telindus country manager Darragh Richardson said one of the reasons the company was expanding its Irish operations was that IT hardware manufacturers such as Cisco, Juniper and Trapeze were demanding new ways to connect with end-customers.
"A lot of business models out there in Ireland at the moment are cookie-cutter based -- pushing the same product out to customers every year. We want to offer a more flexible model for deploying IT solutions," Richardson said.
"We don't believe in short term, commoditised technology for the sake of technology, and Irish firms need a much better service than this to compete both at home and internationally."
Richardson said the firm is currently seeking business with property developers interested in offering 'smart home' technologies. He said integrating CCTV, security and air conditioning systems in properties for building management services firms was also an area of operation.
The company is headquartered in Belgium, and employs 2,753 staff across 15 countries including Hungary, China and Thailand. Telindus said it posted a turnover of EUR702 million in 2006.
