In Tom Raftery's second video podleaders he interviews Jan Blanchard of TouristR; a site for uploading reviews of holiday destinations. It allows uploading of text, photos and videos as well as rating of destinations.
A classic Web 2.0 application, the concept is fairly simple though, arguably there are other sites out there already well established in this space.
People subscribing to TouristR can create their own map of places they have been and places they plan to visit in the future. Additionally they can upload photos and write about their travel experiences which are shared with other members of the service. Thus TouristR is the platform, but it is the members who create the value in sharing their content on the service.
Based in Limerick, the site is just into its public beta and aims, according to its blog to always be free to users, so it is likely that revenues will be focused on advertising.
