Equifax announces jobs boost for Wexford

15-01-2008

by Stephen Errity

Global information solutions company Equifax opened a new facility in Wexford on Tuesday that will see 180 jobs being created there over the next five years.

The company's new location in the IDA Business & Technology Park in Drinagh was officially opened by the Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, John Browne TD. It represents an expansion of Equifax's existing Irish operation in Wexford, with a range of new functions being added. The new facility has also been designated as the primary support centre for a number of the company's business operations.

In his speech at the opening, Minister Browne congratulated management and staff for their success and for their commitment to the region. "The expansion, which is part of Equifax's strategy for international growth, makes Wexford a further integrated and critical part of the group's future well-being," he said.

The minister added that Equifax's positive experiences in Wexford, such as the strong supply of high-quality graduates and skilled people, the pro-business community, the wide choice of property solutions and the standard of infrastructure had all contributed to the decision.

Equifax says the 180 new jobs to be created over the next five years will be 'permanent, high-quality positions'. The expansion was first announced in March of last year and the number of promised jobs has increased from the 160 stated at that time.

Sandra Lawrence, Equifax's general manager for the UK and Ireland said: "We are delighted with the success of our operation in Ireland [and] welcome the support and encouragement from the local and business community. We are confident of finding the necessary skills and experience here that our new expanded operation will require."

In operation since 1889, Equifax Inc. employs 4,600 people in 13 countries around the world and has annual revenue of USD1.4 billion. It collects, manages and processes consumer and business credit information and consumer and business marketing information which is then marketed to individual consumers and business customers.

The firm's existing Irish operation in Wexford is known as Equifax Commercial Services and was first established in 1994. It provides customer support, data-recording services and data analysis for a number of its business operations in the UK.
