Data Edge has completed several deals worth EUR700,000 over the past 12 months. The application and network performance management company rolled out synchronisation and network timing protocol solutions to some of Ireland's banks, telcos and universities. The company is predicting that its revenue in this sector will rise to EUR1 million for 2008 as a whole. "Next generation networks systems that many Irish telecoms providers are currently installing will support advanced services like internet TV and video on demand. However, without highly accurate timing, features we take for granted like a stutter-free picture, properly-synchronised voice and video and fast-channel changing will not work," said Paul Phelan, chief technology officer, Data Edge.
Yahoo has filed a lawsuit against Yahoo Lottery Spammers for unlawfully sending e-mail messages to internet users. The lawsuit was filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York in New York City. Yahoo alleges that the lottery spammers masqueraded as Yahoo and sent e-mails claiming that the recipient had won a lottery, prize or other award from Yahoo. The lottery scam was designed to trick e-mail users into revealing valuable personal data like passwords, credit card information, and social security numbers. "The unauthorised use of Yahoo's trademarks is misleading, fraudulent, and has actually confused, misled, and deceived the public. Yahoo will vigorously enforce its intellectual property rights and will not tolerate lottery hoax e-mails," said Joe Siino, Senior Vice President, Yahoo Global IP and Business Strategy.
