Consumers react positively to video-game advertising | Ryanair launches mobile flight information service

Norkom Technologies has appointed Liam Davis to its board of directors to serve as chief financial officer. Davis has been with the company since 1998. The company also took the opportunity to report a 64 percent increase in revenue and a 59 percent improvement in EBITDA for the year ending 31 March 2008.

According to an IGA-Nielsen study 82 percent of consumers react positively to receiving contextual in-game ads while playing video games. The survey found that such ads lead to a measured lift in overall consumer awareness and opinion of brands. "With young adults now spending on average 6 hours a week gaming, advertisers should be excited at how well their messages were embraced and the brands positively perceived," said Justin Townsend, CEO of IGA Worldwide.

Ryanair has launched a new flight tracker service with Sentient Solutions, which will deliver flight information directly to UK and Irish mobiles. By calling or texting Flight Tracker, any Ryanair passenger can receive up to date information to their mobile phone on the status of Ryanair flights to or from the UK and Ireland, for EUR2.

Business software provider Avaya has appointed Jeremy Butt as leader of Ayaya's worldwide channels, and Bob Lyons as head of the company's global contact centre organisation. Butt recently served as vice president of worldwide channels for Motorola's enterprise mobility business. Lyons joins Avaya from customer service outsourcing company Convergys, where he oversaw operations for the company.

Cable & Wireless and Telecom Italia Sparkle have signed a partnership agreement which will enable Cable & Wireless to deliver network access into the Mediterranean basin and promote Telecom Italia Sparkle's network capabilities in Asia. "We have significantly expanded our presence in Asia through our licences in India and will be able to fully support Telecom Italia Sparkle as its customers enter this new market," said Jim Marsh, chief executive officer of Cable & Wireless Europe, Asia and US.

Sony Ericsson has launched the C905 camera phone and the S302 Snapshot phone. The 8.1 megapixel C905 Cyber-shot slider phone incorporates a real camera flash, face detection, auto-focus, smart contrast and image stabiliser. The S302 phone comes with a two megapixel camera and Bluetooth. It is aimed consumers who want a small affordable camera phone.
