Maynooth students reign in Paris

07-07-2008

by Emmet Ryan

Students from NUI Maynooth drove a biofuelled car to Paris last week to represent Ireland at the Imagine Cup. ENN's cameras were there to see how they got on.

Team AcidRain from Maynooth have developed an engine that runs on cooking oil. We caught up with the Maynooth students as they made a presentation to judges at the event.

Having qualified for the final AcidRain must make a further presentation at the Louvre Museum in Paris on Monday.

The NUI Maynooth team will learn if it's done enough to claim the world title at around lunchtime on Tuesday when the final result is announced.

The Imagine Cup is an annual competition run by Microsoft which challenges students around the world to "imagine a world where technology enables a better x for all" -- this year's theme is the environment. Entrants were asked to come up with a technology solution that helps address an environmental issue.
