Sligo students solve parking problems

07-07-2008

by Emmet Ryan

ParkIT from Sligo IT represented Ireland in the software design category at the Imagine Cup. ENN's cameras followed the team's progress.

Competing in what is essentially the World Cup of science, Sligo IT's ParkIT team demonstrated its parking technology system before a panel of judges in Paris last week.

Having beaten off the best in Ireland, the Sligo students went up against teams from all over the world in Paris.

Amidst stiff competition the Sligo students came up just short and missed the semi-finals. The team has reason to be upbeat however as the technology is set to be commericialised next year.

The Imagine Cup is an annual competition run by Microsoft which challenges students around the world to "imagine a world where technology enables a better x for all" -- this year's theme is the environment. Entrants were asked to come up with a technology solution that helps address an environmental issue.
