IT firm creates 40 Dublin jobs | Simtech expands, creates jobs
The Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mary Coughlan has announced that healthcare technology firm Cerner Corporation, is to expand its presence in its Dublin headquarters. Up to 40 new jobs are to be created as the firm adds a software technical support service to its Irish operations. Cerner provides technology to doctors, health systems and the pharmaceutical industry.
Meanwhile, aviation training firm Simtech is setting up an 'aviation centre of excellence' near Dublin airport. The move, which should see the firm grow its staff from 24 to 40 over the next five years, will see Simtech relocate to a new 20,000 square foot facility in Dublin Airport Logistics Park. Simtech plans to add an additional full flight simulator to its premises in September. Employees at Simtech include engineering graduates and certified airline industry instructors.
O2 has announced details of a new service to combat bullying on mobile phones. Block It, which is free of charge, allows O2 customers to block unwanted text, picture and video messages from other mobile phone numbers. The service will be available from mid-June. The Minister for Children Barry Andrews has welcomed the introduction of the service.
IT consulting firm Kainos has implemented a document collaboration project for RTE using Microsoft Sharepoint. The new system automates the handling and management of RTE's copy clearance process which ensures that all commercials aired on RTE Radio and Television services comply with a comprehensive set of applicable laws and codes and are of an acceptable standard. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Irish firms are over-spending on software testing, according to a new report by Sogeti. The IT testing firm claims that most organisations can cut testing costs by 25 percent or more through outsourcing. "Despite the enormous potential benefits, relatively few Irish organisations currently outsource the testing of existing or new software applications," said Daithi Holden, director of Test and Operations at Sogeti Ireland. Dublin-based supply management software firm Supplierforce, has announced that former BT Group chief procurement officer, Meryl Bushell, has joined its board as a non-executive director. During her time at BT Bushell led the globalisation of the procurement and supply chain functions in the telecoms sector.
Mobile advertising business Return2Sender has launched the Carlsberg CatNAV mobile application to support Carlsberg's sponsorship of the Carlsberg Cat Laughs Comedy Festival. The mobile application allows users to download a mini guide to the festival including maps and line ups.
