Web firm creates Mullingar jobs | PC market grows 24.2 percent

Mullingar-based firm Brywest Enterprises is to create 40 jobs through its web portal venture Farmersforum.ie. The forum is a resource for farmers, and includes updates on mart prices from around the country, online auctions and an online vet. The new roles at Brywest will include web developers and sales people.

The Irish Times is to launch an iPhone app on Friday for its supplement The Ticket. The app will be free and will focus on music, cinema and general entertainment news. This is the second app launched by the Irish Times, the first was a news app, which is available at a cost of EUR1.59. The news app is currently the top paid-for app in the Irish iTunes chart.

In more news of iPhone apps, Opera has announced that its mobile browser, Opera Mini, was downloaded over 1 million times on the first day of launch on Apple's App Store. The app is currently the top iPhone download in 22 App Stores, claims Opera.

The global PC market grew 24.2 percent in the first quarter, with 79 million units being shipped worldwide, according to IDC. Hewlett-Packard topped the market with Acer in second and Dell a close third. Read more here.

Twitter has revealed that it has a grand total of 105,799,710 registered users. The micro-blogging site says that 300,000 new users sign up every day, and that 600 million searches are conducted per day. Read more stats from Twitter here.
