DIT students hit the right note | Digiweb swallows TalkTalk
Chipmaker Xilinx has posted fiscal fourth quarter profits of USD148.5 million, or USD0.54 per share, up from USD78 million, or USD0.28 per share, in the year-ago period. Revenue of USD529 million beat analyst estimates of USD521.45 million. Xilinx expects revenue for the current quarter to be 5 to 9 percent higher than the quarter just reported.

DIT students, with their ImagineNote project, will represent Ireland at Microsoft's Imagine Cup 2010 in Poland this summer. ImagineNote is a game that uses soundbeam technology in place of a normal controller. It's been designed as an alternative music therapy device for people of all ages with learning, physical or other disabilities.
Broadband provider Digiweb has acquired TalkTalk Ireland for an undisclosed sum. As a result of the acquisition, the firm said it will hire up to 20 additional staff to support the new offerings and services to customers. Recruitment has begun in the areas of customer care, systems development, and finance.
NewBay Software, HeyStaks Technologies and Clavis Technologies are the eight firms from the Republic of Ireland to be named as UK & Ireland Tech Tour finalists. Aepona and Andor Technology are among the four Northern Ireland firms to make the finals. See the full list here.
In its third fiscal quarter BSkyB added 62,000 net new customers, while nine-month revenues increased by 11 percent to STG4.38 billion. Read more on the Irish Times.
