ENN.ie readers embrace social tools for business

03-08-2010

by ElectricNews.net

A growing number of professionals are using social media as business tools, according to our reader survey.

ENN.ie survey results show:

  • 65 percent of our readers use LinkedIn as a business tool
  • 30 percent use Twitter for business
  • 22 percent use Facebook for business

Social media have become key business tools for readers of news service ENN.ie, as a growing number of professionals acknowledge that 'conversation is king' when it comes to both customers and colleagues. An overwhelming majority of respondents to a survey of around 300 readers say they use social networking sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, for both business and personal use. LinkedIn and Facebook are by far the most popular sites among our readers, each with almost 80 percent usage, while over 50 percent say they use Twitter.

A significant number of readers log on to social sites for work purposes. Some 65 percent of our readers say they use LinkedIn for business purposes, while just over 30 percent use Twitter for work-related activities, followed by 22 percent who visit Facebook for "business use". Readers also say they use blogs (44 percent) and discussion forums (29 percent) for both work and leisure, with Boards.ie the most frequently mentioned forum among respondents.

With regards to our own website, ENN.ie, our daily and weekly roundups are the most popular items among readers. Some 70 percent read our Weekly Digest, an analysis of the most significant tech events of the week (available by email and at ENN.ie every Thursday), while almost 60 percent read In The Papers, a summary of tech news from the business pages of Irish and international newspapers (available by email and at ENN.ie every business day). Almost 85 percent of the readers surveyed access ENN content through their inbox, via an email newsletter or through a keyword alert.

As ENN prepared to launch ENNclick.com, a showcase for our copywriting and content services, we asked if readers would be interested in a new social media and digital marketing blog. Almost 68 percent said yes, with another 54 percent saying they would be interested in joining a forum dedicated to digital marketing in Ireland.
