Nua's McGovern gets recognition award

Gerry McGovern, co-founder and chief executive officer of Nua, was presented with the annual recognition award at the Web Ireland national Internet business awards ceremony.
Liam Miller, RTE's managing director for organisation and development accepted the IE Domain Registry cyber hero of the year award on behalf of RTE at the awards ceremony held in Dublin on Friday in association with the .ie Domain Registry.
Colm Grealy and Barry Flanagan of Online.ie won the AIB industry person of the year award and Fran Rooney of Baltimore Technology was voted Bank of Ireland businessperson of the year. The Online.ie IT journalist of the year award went to ElectricNews.Net founder and editor Sheila McDonald.
The quality of entries was an indication of the very high standard of talent in the Internet sector, said organiser and Web Ireland publisher Stephen Finnegan.
The year 2000 was one which has been "truly the year in which Web site traffic, e-mail use and e-commerce transactions spiralled upwards," said Public Enterprise Minister Mary O'Rourke.
"The Government attaches great importance to e-commerce enabling the whole economy and believes that Ireland will become a leading international player in this field. A partnership across all sectors is the key," she added.
