Molex to close Cork factory | Hosting365 says problems have been resolved

US electronics firm Molex is to make 80 workers at its Cork factory redundant. The company, which manufactures electrical connection systems, is to close its factory in Millstreet as part of a restructuring of its Irish operations. The firm currently employs 100 people at its Millstreet operation and around 400 at a plant in Shannon.

Directory enquiries provider 11890 has criticised Eircom's decision to increase the cost of its 11811 service. "The Irish public has been saddled with the lack of competition in the directory enquiries market for far too long. Now they face yet another price hike from 11811," said Nicola Byrne, managing director of 11890.

SonyEricsson, the joint venture between Sony and Ericsson, is to launch a handful of new mobile phones. The K530 is a slim 3G phone that gives access to the web and has a 2 megapixel camera. The company said it's also the first phone to be compatible with GPS Enabler HGE-100, which plugs into the phone and works as a personal satellite navigation system. Sony Ericsson also unveiled two new camera phones. Sony Ericsson K850 is a 5 megapixel HSDPA phone, while the Z320 is a 1.3 megapixel clamshell phone that works on GSM/GPRS networks. The firm also said it will launch two new Walkman music phones, the W910 and W960.

Apple has announced that more than 1 million copies of its browser, Safari 3 for Windows, were downloaded in the first 48 hours since the free public beta was made available on Monday. Safari 3 for Windows requires Windows XP or Windows Vista, a minimum of 256 MB of memory and a system with at least a 500 MHz Intel Pentium processor.

Enterprise Ireland is to host an exhibition of seven of Ireland's leading aerospace companies at next week's Paris Air Show, which takes place from 18 to 24 June. In a statement, Enterprise Ireland said the Paris Air Show is considered the premier aerospace trade fair and a key event for the global aerospace industry. Almost 2,000 companies will exhibit at the event which is expected to attract up to 500,000 visitors over the course of the exhibition. There are over 160 companies involved in the aerospace industry in Ireland, employing approximately 7,500 people. The seven companies being hosted by Enterprise Ireland at the event in Paris are Aircraft Management Technologies, Botany Weaving, Eire Composites, FEXCO Merchant Services, Magellan Aviation Services, Parallel Graphics and Parc Aviation.

Hosting365 has told ENN that the problems it encountered as a result of a power outage have been resolved. Earlier on Friday ENN reported that clients of the firm suffered disruptions to their web hosting and e-mail services during the outage. "Everything is back up and running now," said Ed Byrne, marketing director of Hosting365.
