EU to monitor transition to new roaming rates | eBay and Google become friends again
Discover Science & Engineering (DSE) is calling on Leaving Certificate students to consider science, engineering and technology courses ahead of the CAO Change of Mind deadline on 1 July. DSE said science, engineering and technology graduates can expect starting salaries among the highest of all Irish graduates and degrees, which will afford them greater flexibility in their career choice.
Professor Petra Ahrweiler has joined the National Institute of Technology Management (NITM) at UCD School of Business as Professor of Innovation and Technology Management. In her new role she will be responsible for the establishment of a research programme on science, technology and innovation policy as well as supervising PhD students. Ahrweiler previously worked at the Research Centre Media and Politics, University of Hamburg, where she was vice-head from 2002 to 2007. Before that she worked as a Scientific Coordinator at the Institute for Science and Technology Studies, University of Bielefeld.
eBay is to resume placing web advertising through Google, but the online auction house said it would rely on alternative advertising services to a greater degree. eBay had cancelled all Google ads ten days ago in protest over the web search company's bid to woo eBay customers to a rival payment system.
The EU Roaming Regulation will become binding law in all 27 Member States on 30 June, a move that the European Commission believes should lead to cheaper roaming costs. This will end the legislative process, started on 12 July 2006 by the European Commission, to curb the roaming charges that consumers and business travellers face while abroad in other EU countries. The Commission said it, along with national regulators, will closely monitor the transition to the new roaming rules to ensure no abuses take place.
Apple's MacBooks showed strong growth in May as the company's notebook market share in the US jumped almost 2 percent, according to market research firm NPD. Apple's MacBook and MacBook Pro rose from 12.5 percent in April 2007 to a 14.3 percent share of the market in May 2007. Apple's notebook share puts the company in fourth place behind Hewlett-Packard, Toshiba and Gateway.
