Sanmina-SCI to create new jobs in Cork | Ice Broadband covers more of Midlands
Electronics contract manufacturer Sanmina-SCI is to create 50 new jobs as part of a EUR30 million investment in the transformation of its Fermoy, County Cork, facility into a manufacturing and design centre-of-excellence for the medical industry. Supported by IDA Ireland, the investment will establish an R&D centre of engineering excellence to develop and design processes and products. Additionally, the investment will facilitate the continuous upgrade of the facility and equipment to enable it to stay ahead of the ever-increasing and exacting regulatory and quality standards of the medical industry.
Ice Broadband has announced it is to roll out its broadband service in Castlepollard, County Westmeath. The company first launched its services in the Midlands last November in Mullingar and Tullamore. Ice Broadband is offering a range of packages in Castlepollard, including the new ICEpack, which combines phone and broadband services from EUR49.99 per month.
Novell has launched a new product which helps firms to enforce security policies on networks. Novell ZENworks Endpoint Security Management can be used to control device ports, wireless connections and applications, as well as to guarantee data encryption. The solution automates the enforcement of corporate security policies, giving organisations control over their data and endpoint access while still allowing the safe use of removable drives and ensuring wireless security. It includes 'Location-Aware Enforcement', a feature which prevents unauthorised access by automatically adjusting security controls and protections based on the user's location.
Hardware, software and services will account for EUR141 million of the EUR260 million expected to be spent on technology in the health sector in Ireland this year, according to iReach. The spend on telecoms will account for EUR119 million and comprises hardware, fixed-line and mobile services.
The Bandit Project has announced a new open source cross-platform information card selector that helps users manage digital identity cards used in web transactions. Based on working code from the Bandit Project and interoperable with components from the Eclipse Higgins Project, the DigitalMe information card selector runs on Linux and Macintosh platforms. DigitalMe allows for a user-centric identity model, where users, not websites, control how sensitive identity information is presented. It works by allowing users to manage multiple digital identity cards to control identity data, including name, postal address, e-mail address and credit card information.
The Sony Ericsson K610i is the most popular handset for downloading music on the Three network, according to Three Ireland. The mobile operator said that Nokia's 6280 model was the second most used handset for downloading tunes from Three last month. Sony Ericsson's W850i was the third most popular mobile, while the LGU400 was also a popular choice. On average, individual Three customers download three or four tracks per month.
