is named 'chairman emeritus' at WorldCom
Paul O'Dea, chief executive officer of Ascend, has been elected chairman of the
Irish Software Association (ISA). He succeeds Billy Huggard, managing
director of CPG Group, who has completed his term of office. His appointment will
take effect from 3 June 2002.

Ascend's main line of business is to assist entrepreneurs working with early
stage hi-tech companies and to develop and implement international growth
strategies for such firms. Prior to Ascend, O'Dea was a co-founder of banking
software company Credo, which was acquired by Misys. He was chairman of the Irish
Software Association in 1996 and is also a member of the governing board of ICT
Ireland.

Conor Shaw has been promoted to senior director at Oracle iSD with
responsibility for the sales and interaction centre for EMEA. Other appointments
at Oracle include three new members at the firm's Internet sales division,
Michiel Smuts, Jochen Heyden and Brenda Greaves. Smuts and Heyden both join
Oracle from IBM, while Greaves comes from Quantam Ireland.

The University of Limerick has appointed professor Vincent Cunnane as the
new vice president of research.

Skynet Telecom has recruited Eoin O'hEochaidh as its chief technical
officer. O'hEochaidh moves over from Digital Communications.

Data Direct has made Patrick Rafferty its newest senior account manager.
Rafferty comes to Data Direct with over six years experience in the IT industry
and was formerly a sales supervisor at Gateway.

WorldCom Inc. said that Bernard Ebbers, who resigned as chief executive,
was named "chairman emeritus" and will serve as an unpaid consultant to the
company. The "chairman emeritus" position is essentially an honorary role and
carries no official duties or responsibilities.

Peregrine Systems, which is in the midst of an internal audit after
questions were raised about its accounting, has seen Steve Gardner, its chief
executive, resign. Matt Gless, chief financial officer and executive vice
president of finance, has also left the company. The two men are to be replaced
by John Moores, who was chosen as the new chairman, while Rick Nelson was
appointed acting chief executive. Fred Gerson was named acting chief financial
officer and Charles La Bella was appointed as executive vice president and senior
counsel.

Digital marketing firm, Agency.com, has appointed Eben Lenderking as its
European chief executive. Lenderking takes up the newly created role immediately,
having joined the agency last May as chief operations officer for Europe. He will
report to Chan Suh, Agency.com's chief executive and chairman. Lenderking will
now oversee both Agency.com and its on-line advertising outfit i-traffic.

Avaya, a provider of voice and data networks to businesses, announced that
Anil Srivastava has been named vice president of sales for Europe, Middle East
and Africa (EMEA). In this role, Srivastava is now responsible for driving sales
through Avaya's multi-channel programme and sales operations across the EMEA
region, including sales programmes, channel management and pre-sales.
